David Pfender is an expert on marine litter issues and works at the NABU national office, Berlin (NABU - Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V.).

David's range of activities at NABU includes coordinating, supporting annual cleanup activities in cooperation with the German Olympic Water Sports Federations and assisting with litter scour monitoring by NABU activists on the German Baltic Sea coast.

In advisory expert bodies, such as the Round Table on Marine Litter, he is committed to an ambitious national implementation of the marine litter-related measures of
the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive and advises decision-makers on the development of a cost model for the financial participation of manufacturers of disposable products in the development of measures against disposable litter.

In the past, he worked for Whale and Dolphin Conservation in Brussels and Manila. Scientific research stations were the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, the University of Greifswald, as well as the Universidad Católica del Norte in Coquimbo (Chile).
