Solar-pioneer, founder & CEO of SILENT-YACHTS Michael Köhler has spent over 6.000 days on board of his yachts and sailed over 75.000 NM all around the world.
After travelling the oceans on conventional motorboats & sailboats for over 40 years, he and his wife Heike came to the conclusion that there had to be a better way to supply yachts with energy. In 2004, Michael and Heike started testing alternative power sources for their usage on yachts, with the focus on self-sufficient power supplies and electric propulsion. The results of their research were that in typical holiday destinations, the sun is a far more reliable source of energy than the wind. After many years of testing, they started the design and construction of the Solarwave 46, the first prototype of a fully self-sufficient and purely solar powered bluewater-catamaran.
Today, SILENT-YACHTS produces ocean-going solar yachts, ranging from 60 to 120 ft in length. This offers guests the possibility of unlimited range with zero emissions.
